World Taekwondo Championship | Aflaki’s Students Finish as Runners-Up / Return to the World Podium After 8 Years

According to the Sedaye Sama News Agency, The 27th World Taekwondo Championships were held from October 24 to 30 in Wuxi, China, with the participation of 898 athletes from 179 countries. Iranian national team members won a gold medal by Abolfazl Zandi, a silver medal by Mehdi Haji-Mousaee, and a bronze medal by Amir-Sina Bakhtiari.

At the end of the competition, according to the World Taekwondo Federation, the Iranian men’s team finished as the world runners-up with one gold, one silver, and one bronze. South Korea claimed the championship for the 25th time with two golds, one silver, and two bronzes, while Brazil ranked third with one gold and one silver. This marked Iran’s return to the world podium after eight years, following 2017.

In the women’s category, the Turkish team performed impressively, winning three golds, one silver, and one bronze to claim the championship. Brazil and Hungary each won one gold and one silver, ranking second and third respectively, while China and Chinese Taipei placed fourth and fifth.

Overall, the Turkish team had the best medal performance with three golds, two silvers, and two bronzes. South Korea (two golds, two silvers, two bronzes) and Brazil (two golds, two silvers) ranked second and third. Tunisia, with two golds, was fourth, and Iran and Uzbekistan, each with one gold, one silver, and one bronze, were fifth.

A total of 27 countries won medals in the men’s and women’s competitions. Notably, China achieved an impressive result with seven bronze medals in eight women’s weight categories.

  • Best Male Player: On-soo Seo (South Korea)

  • Best Female Player: Luana Marton (Hungary)

  • Best Women’s Coach: Ali Sari (Turkey)

  • Best Referees: Laith Othman (Jordan, men), Susan Boyd Diaz (Panama, women)
