The Washington Post: Trump was planning an attack on Iran during the nuclear negotiations!

We are dealing with the most immoral and despicable of human beings. I am astonished when some believe that handshakes, smiles, casual meetings, or high-level official meetings without any expert planning (Sharm El-Sheikh) can solve the problem.
Joulani has sat twice in front of Trump, showed humility, and listened to jokes and greetings. Yet, during this one year in power, Syria has been bombed 1,015 times, and yesterday (26/9/404), the United States banned entry of Syrian citizens into the country. Even if you are a soldier, proving it would take years.
Trump unveiled the latest version of the U.S. National Security Document in early December. The role of the document is to define the goals, national interests, and scope of U.S. actions. Governments do not necessarily adhere to the document they publish themselves, so other actors should not consider it a definitive factor.
First, a return to the Monroe Doctrine in U.S. foreign policy can be observed, which had been abandoned since World War II. However, this is not a full return; new-era requirements have been added. Although Trump deviates from the idea of global leadership and focuses on the security of the Western Hemisphere, this does not imply withdrawal from other geographic regions.
Second, Europe has been officially sidelined, and European security is guaranteed only as far as the Brussels fund can purchase U.S. security goods and services. Russia and China have been presented as major actors, downgraded from strategic enemies to economic competitors. Thus, Trump’s world is a tripolar structure.
Third, the West Asia region no longer holds strategic importance because the U.S. has become independent of its energy resources. Israel remains the United States’ main regional concern. This position appears misleading, as freeing the region could lead to the reconstruction of the Resistance Axis. Moreover, the massive U.S. investment in artificial intelligence in the region contradicts this claim; rather, AI geography will be a new reason for their continued presence in the region.
Fourth, the document reveals the depth of America’s medium-term backwardness and its efforts to reduce global costs to create internal balance and reduce external commitments.
