Israel’s Serious Concern over the Improvement of Iran–Egypt Relations

reports about the restoration of full diplomatic relations between Iran and Egypt and the potential reopening of embassies between Tehran and Cairo, assessing this development as having significant regional implications.

According to Russia Today, the Israeli news platform JDN stated that Iran and Egypt’s decision to reopen embassies and exchange ambassadors could have unexpected outcomes in regional equations. The media emphasized that this development comes amid rising regional tensions and that reports indicate closer relations between Tehran and Cairo in recent months.

According to the report, the return of diplomatic relations to a full level will include the exchange of ambassadors in the near future, meaning the full activation of diplomatic missions between the two countries after years of limited relations.

JDN described this move as a sign of significant improvement in relations, which have experienced ups and downs and tensions since the victory of Iran’s Islamic Revolution.

In this context, the Israeli network i24NEWS also described the normalization of Iran–Egypt relations as a “surprising” development, reporting that the two countries have reached an agreement to exchange ambassadors and reopen embassies after a hiatus that lasted since 1980.

i24NEWS also reported that this process resulted from a series of meetings and negotiations between senior officials of both countries. The most notable event in this process was the visit of “Masoud Pezeshkian,” Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, to Egypt in December 2024—the first visit by an Iranian president to Cairo in over a decade, considered a sign of warming relations after years of limited interaction.

It is worth noting that recently “Mojtaba Ferdowsipour,” Head of the Interests Protection Office of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Egypt, told Al Jazeera that Iran–Egypt relations have entered an advanced and expanding stage, and the decision regarding the exchange of ambassadors between the two countries has been definitively made.
