Special Measures Adopted to Manage Tehran’s Drinking Water Crisis

According to the Sedaye Sama News Agency, Issa Bozorgzadeh, spokesperson for the national water industry, announced that a special meeting on managing Tehran’s drinking water crisis was held with the participation of the Minister of Energy and the Governor of Tehran.
He stated that during the meeting, the latest status of the five main dams and water supply systems was reviewed, and it was concluded that the current level of water consumption reduction across the province is insufficient to overcome the ongoing extremely dry autumn.
Bozorgzadeh added that, given the very limited resilience of the Latyan, Mamloo, Lar, and Amir Kabir dams and the necessity of reducing water withdrawals from them, special decisions were made to further cut water consumption by Tehran residents by at least an additional 10 percent compared to the current level.
He emphasized that achieving the planned reduction requires joint management efforts between the Ministry of Energy and citizens to effectively navigate the current water crisis.
