Tehran on the Final Day of Farewell: Swept by Massive Crowds Bidding Farewell to the Martyred Leader
The funeral procession and public farewell for Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, described in the source as the martyred leader of the Islamic Revolution, began before 6:00 a.m. on Monday in Tehran with large numbers of mourners under the slogan "We Must Rise" and concluded at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday near Shahid Hossein Lashgari Expressway.
According to the Sedaye Sama News Agency, the funeral also included the bodies of the martyred leader, Seyedeh Boshra Hosseini Khamenei (the leader’s daughter), Mesbah al-Hoda Bagheri (the leader’s son-in-law), Zahra Haddad Adel (the wife of the Leader of the Revolution), and Zahra Mohammadi Golpayegani (the leader’s granddaughter). According to the organizing committee, the procession started from Damavand Street and continued through Imam Hossein Square, Enghelab-e Eslami Street, Enghelab Square, Azadi Street, Azadi Square, and Shahid Lashgari Expressway.
Shortly before 8:30 a.m., the vehicle carrying the bodies entered the large crowd of mourners from one of the streets leading to Azadi Street.
Following its arrival, Brigadier General Hassanzadeh, head of the headquarters organizing the farewell, funeral prayer, and procession in Tehran, asked people to remain along the route, stating that the body of the martyred leader would once again be flown by helicopter over the procession route at the conclusion of the ceremony.
The vehicle later paused near Azadi Square to allow additional mourners to join.
At approximately 11:30 a.m., accompanied by large crowds, the vehicle entered Azadi Square.
Around 1:30 p.m., General Hassanzadeh announced that the procession would continue from Azadi Square along Shahid Lashgari Expressway and expressed hope that it would reach its final destination within the following hours.
He also referred to what he described as the unprecedented public turnout in Tehran and explained adjustments made to the procession route and the event’s on-the-ground management.
He added that the ceremony was scheduled to conclude in Tehran before 5:00 p.m., with the bodies being transferred to Qom before sunset prayers.
