Iran Becomes a Member of the World AI Cooperation Organization

According to Sedaye Sama News Agency, citing ISNA, Iran’s Ambassador to China, on behalf of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, signed the founding charter of the World AI Cooperation Organization (WAICO), officially registering Iran among the founding member states of the newly established organization.

Following the signing ceremony, Ambassador Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli met with Liu Bin, China’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, and emphasized the importance of multilateral cooperation in shaping the future of advanced technologies. He stated that Iran is ready to actively participate in the scientific, research, and practical development of artificial intelligence, as well as in establishing international mechanisms to ensure the fair use of AI technologies.

The Iranian ambassador in Beijing stressed that, by joining this international initiative as one of its founding members, the Islamic Republic of Iran seeks to promote constructive engagement in emerging technologies and harness artificial intelligence to support sustainable development and social progress.

The World AI Cooperation Organization (WAICO) was established on July 16, 2026, at China’s initiative during the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai. According to its founding charter, WAICO is an independent intergovernmental organization headquartered in Shanghai, with the mission of promoting international AI cooperation, strengthening global AI governance, and ensuring the safe, healthy, and equitable development of artificial intelligence.
