Following the presentation of their programs, the candidates went through the first round of voting. Mojtaba Maleki received 19 votes, while Mohammad Nasiri received 12 votes. Amir Zandi, Seyed Hamid Reza Mirzahed and Hossein Yarmohammadian each received 6 votes.

As no candidate secured the required majority, the election went to a second round between Mojtaba Maleki and Mohammad Nasiri.
