According to the “Sedaye Sama” news outlet, citing Iran Customs, Faroud Asgari, Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance and head of Iran Customs, emphasized the deep-rooted relations between Iran and Armenia during the meeting and said: “The development of these relations requires practical and sustainable solutions to facilitate trade and border traffic.”

Referring to the importance of the Norduz–Meghri border, he said: “This border is not merely a commercial crossing; it can become a bridge connecting the Caucasus and Central Asia, and facilitating trade there will contribute to the development of the economic relations between the two countries.”

Asgari also stressed the need for foreign trade to continue under the region’s special circumstances, saying: “Security and trade facilitation must go hand in hand, and the necessary predictability must be provided for traders and economic actors at this border.”

The head of Iran Customs described the Norduz–Meghri border as a model of a secure and transparent border and emphasized expanding cooperation between the two countries to establish closer ties and facilitate trade.

Edward Hakopyan, head of the State Revenue Committee of the Republic of Armenia, then emphasized Armenia Customs’ readiness to expand customs cooperation with Iran, highlighting the importance of the talks.

Referring to the daily passage of 250 trucks through this border, he said: “With the necessary infrastructure and conditions in place, there is potential to increase truck traffic between the two countries.”

Hakopyan also described the electronic exchange of customs information as one of the key areas of cooperation between the two sides and called for accelerating the implementation of agreements to make trade between Iran and Armenia smoother.

During the meeting, the capabilities of Iran’s customs systems were also explained to the Armenian side, and both sides emphasized continuing negotiations and technical coordination to operationalize the agreements.
