Khorramshahr–Basra Passenger Ferry Route to Resume for Arbaeen Pilgrims
According to Sedaye Sama News, the Khorramshahr–Basra passenger ferry route, which gained significant popularity in previous years due to its shorter travel time, avoidance of heavy road traffic, and safe transportation option during the Arbaeen pilgrimage, will resume operations ahead of this year’s ceremonies.
The Valfajr Shipping Company is set to reactivate the ferry service before the start of Arbaeen to facilitate travel for pilgrims heading to Iraq.
Every year during Arbaeen, the sharp increase in the number of pilgrims crossing Iran’s land borders—particularly the Mehran border crossing—causes severe congestion and heavy traffic on the roads leading to the border. Providing alternative travel options can help distribute passenger traffic more evenly and reduce pressure on the country’s land transportation infrastructure.
According to the announced plan, the ferry service will not be limited to the Arbaeen season. It will continue operating on a regular basis after the pilgrimage, helping meet passenger demand while promoting maritime travel and strengthening passenger connections between Iran and Iraq.
Tickets for the Khorramshahr–Basra route will be available through the Khorramshahr Passenger Terminal, authorized travel agencies, and the company’s official representatives.
