Central Bank Governor Emphasizes Removing Banking Obstacles and Implementing Solutions for the Use of Iran’s Foreign Exchange Resources

According to the Sada-ye Sama news outlet, Abdolnaser Hemmati, Governor of the Central Bank of Iran, met with Nizar Nasser Hussein, Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, and emphasized the need to accelerate the removal of banking obstacles and implement solutions for utilizing Iran’s foreign exchange resources.

During the bilateral meeting, Hemmati explained the importance of expanding monetary and banking cooperation and stressed the serious determination of both sides to swiftly resolve existing obstacles.

Referring to the need to settle the Islamic Republic of Iran’s claims against the Iraqi government, particularly by establishing mechanisms to enable the Central Bank of Iran to use its resources held within Iraq’s banking system, Hemmati called for continuous follow-up and the implementation of banking solutions to accelerate these interactions.

Hemmati also emphasized the important role of the private sector in the economic development of the two countries and called for the facilitation of banking procedures for Iranian businesses, as well as the removal of obstacles to the transfer of funds and the use of joint monetary capacities.

Nizar Nasser Hussein, Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, welcomed the expansion of economic relations and referred to the enormous natural resources and skilled human capital available in both countries. He said the two sides should make the best possible use of these capacities to expand technical and engineering cooperation and improve financial relations.

At the end of the meeting, both sides expressed satisfaction with the atmosphere of the talks and stressed the continuation of joint meetings to achieve concrete and operational results regarding access to and management of foreign exchange resources.

Hemmati also invited the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq to make an official visit to Tehran to continue consultations and finalize banking agreements.

The meeting also included a detailed review of the problems and challenges facing Iranian traders and exporters in Iraq.
